Kwara Police Arrest Two Suspected Bandits, Alleged Facilitator in Baruten Raid
Operatives of the Kwara State Police Command arrested two suspected bandits and an alleged facilitator, recovering AK-47 rifles and ammunition in Baruten LGA.
The Kwara State Police Command has arrested two suspected bandits and recovered two AK-47 rifles, live ammunition, and other items during a raid in Baruten Local Government Area. The command's spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, June 9, 2026.
The operation, carried out on June 6, led to the arrest of Bello Mohammed, 28, and Abubakar Mohammed, 25, at a suspected criminal hideout in Okuta, Baruten LGA. The police also apprehended an alleged facilitator, Umoru Saliu, who is said to have provided accommodation for members of the criminal network.
According to the statement, investigation linked the suspects to a criminal network allegedly involved in kidnapping, armed attacks, and other violent crimes within the Baruten axis and adjoining communities. Items recovered from the hideout include two AK-47 rifles, sixty-five rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition, two cutlasses, and two tube tyres allegedly used in restraining victims.
The Kwara State Police Command's Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), working with personnel from the Okuta Divisional Police Headquarters, conducted the tactical raid based on credible intelligence.
